On April 4, as part of the celebrations surrounding the International Ski History Association's Ski History Week in Park City, the Engen Museum hosted a fashion show featuring the Barbara Alley Collection of skiwear from 1968 - 1998. The show, held on Legacy Plaza in Park City, also included free-style jumpers, complete with skis, making incredible jumps on trampolines. A band also delighted the large crowd of spectators.
Barbara Alley, regarded as the "First Lady of Ski Fashion," coordinated and hosted ski fashion shows for touring ski shows directed by her late husband, Jerry Simon. She also was the fashion editor for Skiing Magazine in 1974, wrote fashion editorials for Snow Country Magazine, and appeared on daytime TV shows with Merv Griffin and Oprah Winfrey during the 1980s. In the 1990s, she also produced and hosted fashion shows for Snowsports Industries America.
The fabulous collection of ski apparel, accessories, and equipment that Barbara Alley donated to the Alf Engen Ski Museum highlights major fashion trends of each era's prevailing style, from bell-bottoms of the 1970s, to the bright neons of the 1980s and highly technical designs of the 1990s.
