Job Title: Full-time Operations Manager

The Alf Engen Ski Museum opened to the public in May 2002. The museum operates under a Board of Directors of the Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation, a not-for-profit organization. We are closely aligned with the Utah Olympic Park and work cohesively with many areas of the Park. The mission of the Alf Engen Ski Museum is to preserve the rich history of skiing in the Intermountain Region by providing a world-class facility that highlights the many contributions made in ski area development, athletic competition, snow safety, ski innovation, and ski teaching methods.

Major Tasks/Responsibilities:

Provide management support to the Executive Director, including, but not limited to:       

  • Manage Museum Guide staff: Scheduling, hiring, training, payroll, and maintenance.
  • Work at virtual experience exhibit:  Physically check exhibits and give breaks to Museum Guides, fill in where needed.
  • Resolve any issues with museum exhibits daily.
  • Maintain exhibited artifacts according to museum best practices.
  • Research and prepare reports – i.e. exhibit sales, website sales.
  • Education Program: Contact schools, organize field trips, help recruit volunteer docents and update curriculum and cart experiences.
  • Museum members: Assist with new promotional ideas (Live PC Give PC), work on Excel spreadsheets containing various mailing lists.
  • Assist with events – i.e. Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame; docent and staff recognition; exhibit unveiling.
  • New ideas and projects welcomed!
  • Additional duties as needed.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to take direction and lead by example.
  • Past experience hiring, training, scheduling, encouraging, and managing employees.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with office operations.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills – Excel, MS Office required.
  • Knowledge of website management and updating
  • Ability to be both a great team player and to work independently.

Preferable Experience:

  • Staff management

Hours and Compensation: $45,000 - $50,000 DOE

  • 40 hours per week – flexible schedule, weekend work required.
  • Health and dental insurance – 80%
  • Simple IRA – 3% match

Job Title: Ski Museum Guide 

The Alf Engen Ski Museum opened to the public in May, 2002. The museum operates under a Board of Directors of the Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation, a not-for-profit organization. We are closely aligned with the Utah Olympic Park and work cohesively with many areas of the Park. The mission of the Alf Engen Ski Museum is to preserve the rich history of skiing in the Intermountain Region by providing a world class facility which highlights the many contributions made in ski area development, athletic competition, snow safety, ski innovation and ski teaching methods.

The museum hosts approximately 500,000 visitors per year from all over the state, nation and world. It is a fun, energetic atmosphere with unlimited potential to meet new people and associate with outgoing colleagues.

Major Tasks/Responsibilities:

Oversee operation of the ski museum:

  • Operate interactive museum exhibits.
  • Process payments by electronic means from museum visitors.
  • Verbally provide information to visitors that supports the mission of the Alf Engen Ski Museum.
  • Ensure museum exhibits are clean and functioning properly.
  • Various exhibit maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Other tasks associated with the museum as needed.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to visitors.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude towards the mission of the Alf Engen Ski Museum.
  • Ability to give attention to detail.

Hours and Compensation:

  • Shifts are between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm, 7 days a week, various hours are available as is a flexible work schedule.
  • $14 per hour + 4% commission on exhibit sales / average pay is $20-$24/hour.
