Induction Year: 2025

Earl A. Miller

Earl A. Miller’s contributions to skiing will echo from Utah’s slopes to mountains worldwide for generations.

Born in 1925 in Manti, Utah, he was a ski equipment inventor, entrepreneur, visionary, ski area designer, competitor, professional skier, ski coach/instructor, and co-founder of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).

Holder of over 100 patents and trademarks, he revolutionized ski safety with his ski brake, platform ski pole grip, and multi-angle release Miller Ski Bindings.

Among his many innovations, the iconic Miller Soft powder ski earned a devoted following for its unmatched float and performance in deep snow. He also served as head equipment designer for companies in Austria, Japan, Germany, and the United States. Miller was Utah’s four-way ski champion in 1943, a member of the Brigham Young University Ski Team, and later its first ski coach. He was one of the primary designers of Utah’s Timp Haven Ski Area (later Sundance) in Provo Canyon and served as its first ski school director.
