Originally called Snow Park when it opened in 1946, the resort was renamed Deer Valley in 1981. Just 38 miles east of the Salt Lake International Airport, Deer Valley offers luxurious amenities such as ski valets, groomed-to-perfection slopes, on-site child care and gourmet dining in three elegant day lodges.
The world’s elite freestyle skiers gathered on the legendary Champion run to compete under the lights in aerials and moguls before tens of thousands of fans. This landmark event marked over 25 consecutive years of world-class FIS winter sports competitions held on the mountain. The elite race highlighted the resort’s ongoing dominance as a premier competition venue on the global stage.
Through the continuous integration of the eastern expansion terrain, the resort’s total skiable footprint officially reached a massive 4,300 acres. This achievement effectively more than doubled the resort’s original historical size of 2,026 acres. The massive expansion solidified its position as one of the largest winter resorts in North America while maintaining its historic, strict skiers-only environment.
The resort executed its largest infrastructure deployment in a single season by successfully firing up seven brand new chairlifts for the winter season. This massive wave of mechanical expansion added 80 new ski runs to the public trail map. The rapid buildout effectively transformed the property into an expansive, interconnected multipeak megaresort.
Field crews successfully wrapped up summer grading and lift safety testing to finalize the first phase of the eastern expansion in May 2025. The project added dozens of new groomed runs and extended the resort’s total boundaries across the Wasatch County line. This milestone fundamentally shifted the resort’s center of gravity toward its new secondary base village.
The resort officially opened three major new chairlifts in December 2024, including the six-passenger Keetley Express, to initiate the first phase of its Expanded Horizon master plan. This technological network connected the historic terrain seamlessly with the brand-new base village infrastructure being built on the eastern slopes. This project opened up the first 800 acres of the massive Mayflower mountain expansion area to winter guests.
Executive leadership publicly announced a massive, historic agreement to completely integrate the developing Mayflower mountain area into the resort’s official footprint. This landmark partnership with Extell Development Company represented the largest single terrain expansion project in modern American ski history. The historic deal laid the groundwork to more than double the resort’s total skiable acreage.
