Offering 3,240 vertical feet of award-winning terrain enjoyed by all skill levels of skiers and riders, Snowbird boasts Utah’s longest ski season and annually averages 500″. Located six miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon, Snowbird is just a scenic 45 min drive from Salt Lake City International Airport, making same-day skiing and flying a reality. The resort has a wide variety of terrain for everyone to enjoy time on the slopes. Intermediate and advanced skiers will find endless opportunities in the Bird’s winter playground while beginners have options all over the mountain to hone in their skills.
Snowbird completed a comprehensive, multi-million dollar structural remodel of the historic mid-mountain Mid-Gad restaurant. Architects redesigned the building’s layout by installing massive, panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass windows across the dining face. This upgrade allows resting skiers to enjoy clear views of Mount Superior and the granite walls of Little Cottonwood Canyon while escaping winter mountain storms.
The historic 1971 Wilbere fixed-grip chairlift was completely retired and replaced with a modern, fixed-grip chair lift engineered for better safety and reliability. As part of this sweeping trail reconfiguration, crews moved the lower loading station down to the main Creekside Base area. This relocation eliminated the old, awkward trek from the parking lot, allowing beginners and families to step right out of the lodge and directly onto the chairlift.
During the summer recreation season, the resort officially unveiled innovative rooftop balconies on its newly upgraded Aerial Tram cabins. This design marked the very first operational rooftop viewing deck system to be implemented anywhere in the United States. The thrilling modification allowed summer guests to step outside on top of the moving cabin, providing an open-air mountain viewing experience as they ascended to Hidden Peak.
The resort completed a massive, eco-friendly infrastructure upgrade by activating Snowbird Power Systems, a state-of-the-art cogeneration facility. This complex energy network captures wasted heat generated by electricity production and redirects it to heat hotel rooms, melt base area snow, and power guest facilities. This technological transition allowed the mountain to drastically reduce its reliance on coal-fired power, cutting its overall carbon footprint significantly.
Snowbird celebrated its landmark 50th Anniversary during the 2021-22 season by executing a highly anticipated, complete replacement of its iconic Aerial Tram cabins. The old, historic red and blue cabins were officially retired after decades of continuous service and replaced with futuristic, floor-to-ceiling glass windowed cabins. The resort paired this infrastructure milestone with a winter-long series of public events, historical panels, and community celebrations to honor five decades of skiing excellence.
The resort celebrated its heritage by opening the retro-vibe SeventyOne restaurant inside the Snowbird Center, a space intentionally named to honor the resort’s 1971 founding year. Simultaneously, ownership completed a top-to-bottom luxury renovation of the iconic Cliff Lodge to refresh its guest accommodations. To improve pedestrian safety, crews constructed the advanced Peruvian and Chickadee pedestrian suspension bridges to link the base amenities seamlessly.
